Did you ever read Cinderella?
Every young girl attracted to princesses and fairy tales related to this classic story of meeting their Prince Charming, with the aid of some magic and serendipity.
Even I fell for that scenario! To find love and riches, while wearing a beautiful ball gown is compelling.
But now let’s replace those riches with a regular job and that ball gown with a dress that fits slightly tight on my body.
Instead of magical dust, I’ve now turned to that device called a computer to search for my prince. It’s not a comfortable idea to explore when attention is something I don’t seek.
The blog was one thing, in some ways there’s an ability to hide behind my words, but online dating? That SCREAMS “vulnerability” to me.
Not to mention rejection. I admit, I never took chances with my long term crush in part because it’d be hard to hear the words I already know. No thanks, we’re only friends.
So I’ve been actively moving on with my love life and online dating seems like a chance to really stretch myself.
I hear those voices though…
Are you that desperate?
Isn’t online dating dangerous?
You’ll meet nothing but odd people and weirdos.
I knew I couldn’t let those feelings keep me from progressing.
Fear is an ugly emotion I clung to for too many years, which kept me in the same rut. Putting myself out there also means in love.
But as my modern dating journey churned forward I definitely hit some self-esteem snags. Am I good enough? Witty enough? Pretty?
Finally, I eventually rested on one important thing about being open to new men: I’m perfectly imperfect as I am. I am more than okay, being me.
I can’t be open to others if I’m not open myself.
How do you feel comfortable online dating as a bigger woman? Simple:
- Only respond to positive, intelligent interest, not ones that are turning mean or creepy.
- Choose public, but fun venues to meet for a first date.
- Dress like you; embrace your body where it is now and refrain from the spanx or sucking in your stomach through an entire lunch.
- Be your vivacious self. Having a great personality has nothing to do with size. Your essence is what people fall in love with!
Are you ready to stop the self-doubt about your worthiness and FINALLY put yourself out there?
Love,
Sammy
